ALL TERRAIN RALLY CHALLENGE
The All Terrain Rally Challenge (ATRC) is a series of rally events run throughout the year. RallyMoto and the team keep a league table of points scored by competitors at each round.
We will try and give you an insight to the All Terrain Rally Challenge and how you can prepare yourself and your motorcycle to take part and enjoy these great events.
You don’t need to navigate on ATRC events, the course is fully marked and signposted.
For 2020 you will need to register to compete in the ATRC
RallyMoto membership is required
“All Terrain” rallies can be a one or two day events, it normally consists of a number of laps (each lap can be 30-40 miles long) around a marked, arrowed course which will take you along jeep width fire break gravel roads, dirt tracks, muddy forest sections, up the odd climb, down a few slopes, through a stream or two and even across a grassy field ! You will have plenty of time to complete each lap as the average speed is set at 25mph.
On each of these laps there will be a couple of timed sections or special stages as we like to call them, often around 5 to 8 miles long and can cover a variety of terrain. First lap around you have the chance to ride them at your leisure as they are un-timed, the 2nd and 3rd laps however is things get more interesting, you are set off on a green light at 30 seconds intervals and timed, so you can put in your best time ..
Preparing yourself
Besides some off-road skills, its helpful if you are reasonably fit or at least “bike fit” as you might be in the saddle all day. Knowing about your bike and what makes it tick helps too because you can’t find an AA van in forest, let alone much of a phone signal.
Carrying a basic tool kit and water is a must, spare inner tubes are great but only if you know how to fit them or have the tools to do so. Though at the end of each lap you will have the chance to return to your vehicle for any track side repairs.
Riding Gear
Next thing to consider is your riding gear, motocross clothing is OK when the weather is sunny but if it rains you might want to carry some waterproofs or have a set waiting in the pits….. Spare gloves are great to have at all times !! and maybe some spare goggles.
PREPARING YOUR BIKE
We would recommend fitting the best or most knobbly tyres you can find to fit your bike that meet the Regulations. At least then you will have the most grip. Bigger bikes need a more heavy duty tyre but more often than not you can still fit an Enduro style tyre to the front.
We look forward to seeing you at an ATRC event soon.

ATRC Classes for 2020
We have seen the growth of the Rally Lite 1 and 2 classes, whilst in the Rally, Big Bike over 575cc and Trail & Multi classes the numbers have dwindled. So for 2020 we are focusing on three classes plus the Overall Class to appoint an outright winner for the Challenge.
Overall Class – the overall winner is the ATRC Champion.
Rally Lite 1 – Enduro based machines. 2 strokes up to 250cc and 4 strokes up to 350cc
Rally Lite 2 – Enduro based machines. 2 strokes over 250cc and 4 strokes over 350cc
Big Bike (bikes over 575cc)
(Motocross bikes and quads or are not are permitted in the championship)
All Terrain Rally Challenge Points System
We have tried to instigate a system of scoring that promotes a friendly level of competition for the season. We have made a points system that allows every starter to gain points from each event up to 18th in class.
This allows for increased entries and also keeps the whole challenge competitive on a number of levels.
The system is as follows:-
First place – 20 points
Second place – 18 points
Third place – 16 points
Fourth place – 15 points
Fifth place – 14 points
Six place – 13 points
Seventh place – 12 points
Eighth place – 11 points
Nineth place – 10 points
Tenth place – 9 points
Eleventh place – 8 points
Twelveth place – 7 points
Thirteenth place – 6 points
Fourteenth place – 5 points
Fifteenth place – 4 points
Sixteenth place – 3 points
Seventeenth place – 2 points
Eighteenth place – 1 point
Note: All two day events must be completed on both days to gain points in the All Terrain Rally Challenge (ATRC).
Points will be awarded in all relevant Classes.
