We’ve almost lost count of how many events we’ve had to cancel, postpone or reschedule this year.  On one occasion the event finished on the Sunday mere hours before the area went into lockdown on the Monday.  We’ve had luck with some, but not with many others.  The most missed events this year have been the 500s series, the multi day Adventure Rallies that normally attract close to 200 riders per event.  The restrictions on gatherings have meant these have been impossible to run, so they’ve been rescheduled for next year which (fingers crossed) might see some normality return to the events industry.  But enough was enough, and with the announcement of the second national lockdown, Burt began thinking outside the box for ways to allow members to carry on roadbooking even during times when restrictions wouldn’t allow a group event to happen.

So whilst our members were kept occupied during the November lockdown with a few new rounds of the Stir Crazy desktop rally series, the team got busy putting together what was to become the first ever home delivered ‘Rally in a Box’ roadbook series. The concept was to provide our members with everything required to have their own roadbook navigation adventure, packaged and delivered to their home. The series was aptly coined the ‘Icebreaker Challenge’, and the preparations began.

With a member base spread throughout the UK and beyond, the goal was to provide everyone with at least one route that was local to them, so Burt gathered the team across the nation and they got busy planning, plotting, riding and reccying routes throughout November conditions.  In total eight routes were created in the north, south, east and west, three of which were to be chosen by participants entering the challenge.  With the understanding that some members may be riding solo, the routes were developed to encourage navigation improvement and to offer a fun day out rather than technical offroad challenges.  There is no ‘Truck of Shame’ offering rescue services for this adventure!

Meanwhile back at RallyMoto HQ, a new fleet of Roadbook holders were being assembled, ready to be dispatched. With no limits on numbers like there had been on event gatherings, the number of entries on offer were limited only by how many roadbooks and holders we could provide.

Now the freedom to go roadbooking is in the hands of our members, with the first round of the ‘Icebreaker Challenge’ being sent out throughout December. We can’t wait to hear your feedback and share your images from your adventures so be sure to keep us in the loop, tag your photos, comment on our social media pages, and let’s imagine we are all riding together like we will be again in the future. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy your christmas presents, packaged and and delivered to your doorstep in the form of a roadbook rally. Let’s ride out of 2020 in a positive manner and roll into 2021 with the intention of restoring a little more normality back into our lives!
