Saturday 31st October / Sunday 1st November
Venue: Brown Rigg, Bellingham
Start time 14:00 – Finish time 02:00am
As a UK first in motorcycle rallying, The Dark Skies event will be a night rally through Kielder and the surrounding forests. Kielder forest is a “dark skies” area, meaning there is little or no light pollution and when it is dark, it is very dark.
The course length will be approximately 400km and riders will need to finish within a 12 hour window.
The terrain will be a step up from the Kielder 500 and be more off road orientated but still 100% rideable of a big adventure bike with off road tyres.
RallyMoto and Forestry England have worked together to create this special motorcycle event.
All riders will be tracked using RallyMoto’s new precision GPS tracking system, firstly for safety and for accuracy of navigation and adherence to speed limits on the roadbook.
Navigation of the course will be by roadbook with set places for checkpoints and scheduled breaks. The roadbook will be written in a more rally orientated style.
The riders will be ranked on navigation accuracy, adhering to speed limits and an overall speed limit for the course.
Platinum Award – No navigational errors or penalties
Gold Award – Up to 5 penalty points
Silver Award – Up to 10 penalty points
Bronze Award – Over 10 penalty points and / or Finisher
1 points – small navigational error (less than 30m)
3 points – large navigational error (over 30m)
